Jagdschloss Granitz

jagdschloss_granitzOne of Rügen’s most famous attractions is the Jagdschloss Granitz. This hunting lodge was built between 1837 and 1851 and is located in the southeast of the island. The castle was built by the Zur Putbus family, and served, as the name says, as a stay for the family and their guests during the hunting season. From the tallest tower of the castle, the 38 meter high middle tower, you have a beautiful view of the island, if weather is a little bit of it. This tower has been working as a “signpost” on the island since its construction since it is visible from all directions. In the beautiful surroundings of the hunting lodge you can make wonderful walks.

How do you reach the hunting lodge?

Because the distances at Rügen are limited, this beautiful hunting lodge can also be reached by bike or for the tourist who likes a spicy walk. From the place Binz, take the train to the lock and then on foot. By car you can not go beyond the parking lot because car traffic near the hunting lodge is not allowed. The Jagdschlossexpress stops near the hunting lodge. After the visit you can enjoy a delicious international or regional meal in the “Alte Brennerei”.

A beloved wedding location

The historic marble hall of the hunting lodge has been known for many years as a wedding venue. Many couples have given each other in this romantic environment. The hunting lodge is open throughout the year. During the tourist season from April to October, the castle is open daily for visitors. During the winter months you can visit the castle from Tuesday to Sunday. Children up to 18 years old have free admission, adults pay 6 euros, there are special rates for groups starting from 10 people.
