Rügen is also well known for the many boat trips you can enjoy during your stay on the island. From numerous towns across Rügen, sightseeing boats depart daily for scenic cruises along the coastline. You can opt for a complete round-the-island tour or choose a boat trip along either the east or west coast. Seeing the chalk cliffs by boat

Without doubt, one of the most iconic attractions of Rügen is its famous white chalk cliffs. While they are certainly impressive when viewed from the shore, seeing them from the water offers an even more spectacular perspective as the towering cliffs rise dramatically from the sea. Boats depart daily during the high season from Sassnitz and Binz, heading towards the Königstuhl. It is worth boarding one of the smaller vessels, as you'll have a better chance of securing a good spot along the railing for photos. Larger boats stop at multiple locations and can already be quite crowded by the time they reach the cliffs. From Rügen, there are plenty of day trips available by boat. You can enjoy a leisurely cruise on the Jasmunder Bodden, or set sail to the smaller islands dotted along the coast, including the car-free island of Hiddensee. Special themed boat trips are also on offer, especially during the high season. For example, you can take a beautiful evening cruise to admire the island at dusk from the water. Rügen is also home to large breeding colonies of cranes, and dedicated birdwatching boat tours are organised so you can observe these birds up close without disturbing them.
